Annual Meeting Honorees: At the Sep 20 annual meeting, special recognitions went to the universities and technology centers in our region. The institution honored and those accepting the recognitions were:

Dr. Cindy Ross, president of Cameron University
Dr. John Feaver, president of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma
Susan Camp, director, Cameron University – Duncan
Jerry Martin, superintendent, Caddo Kiowa Technology Center
George Tiner, deputy superintendent, Canadian Valley Technology Center – Chickasha Campus
Jim Nisbett, superintendent, Great Plains Technology Center
Gary Tyler, director, Great Plains Technology Center – Tillman/Kiowa Counties Campus
Dusty Ricks, superintendent, Mid-America Technology Center
Ken Layn, principal, Red River Technology Center

ASCOG Founder/Long-time Trustee Honored: Richard Morton, Tillman County Conservation Director and an ASCOG founder was honored at the ASCOG annual meeting for 38 years of continuous service on the board of trustees. Richard had served as treasurer, secretary and president and was on the executive committee many years.

ASCOG Employee of the Year: Gloria York, Accountant II for resource management division, was selected as Employee of the Year at the ASCOG annual meeting.

September Employee-of-the-Month: Susie Lindsey is the administrative assistant for the Area Agency on Aging and orders and stocks supplies and working materials for all ASCOG employees. Additionally, Susie’s work is always completed correctly and in a timely manner.

Workforce Development Division Personnel Update: Lisa Thomas, formerly management information systems coordinator and Workforce Investment Act monitor, has been selected as the deputy director, compliance and information. Christopher Enz, Chickasha, has come on board as the Workforce Investment Act monitor. And, Debra Horridge, Duncan, is the new management information specialist.

U.S. Department of Labor Meeting on Special Grant: Oklahoma Department of Commerce, ASCOG and other regional partners meet with U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) to finalize plans for a $2.5 million grant award. The grant will be for services to service members separating from Ft. Sill and spouses impacted by Base Realignment and Closure decisions. Some planning and reporting remains to be done, but the region is well on it way to implementation.

ASCOG Offices Closed: ASCOG will be closed Fri., Oct. 5 for a training day. Offices will open for business Mon. Oct. 8.

CED: Three CDBG grant applications were awarded for Engineering/Construction. Successful applicants include Alex ($24,300 for engineering) receiving a total of $248,775 for a water tower, Grady County ($22,061 for engineering) receiving a total of $233,642 for water system improvements, and Devol (engineering amount yet to be determined) receiving a total of $236,608 for a water tower. The total amount (including the construction portion of the Engineering-Construction to be funded in next year’s budget) awarded is $1,706,229 for 12 successful grant applications.

Respite Caregiver Program: Are you a Caregiver? If you are caring for someone 60 years and older or you are 60 years of age or older and are caring for a grandchild you are a caregiver! Caregivers are eligible to receive respite vouchers ($400.00 per quarter) that can be used to purchase temporary substitute help which will afford the caregiver a brief period of rest and relief. The Caregiver Program also offers access to information, services, support groups and resources available to the caregiver within their own community.
