REAP Grants Awarded:  The ASCOG board of trustees approved 30 REAP applications for funding of $1,543,695 as compared to $1,593,470 last year.  #1. Listed are the approved REAP recipients, project descriptions and amounts awarded for each grant in the ASCOG eight-county area for FY 08.

Additionally, the Board approved $50,000 from REAP interest monies to purchase 40 automatic external defibrillators (AED’s).  AED grant applications will be mailed to rural fire departments and other entities early February.  For additional information, contact Perry Brinegar, ASCOG director of public safety.

January Employee-of-the-Month:  Melissa Harris, works as a workforce development counselor in the Duncan area office and has been with ASCOG over two years.  She works hard to serve her customers promptly and completes her work in a timely manner. 

ASCOG Holiday:  ASCOG will close Monday, February 18 in observance of President’s Day.  The offices will open at 8 a.m., Tuesday, February 19.

Medicare Part D Enrollment Extended:  Because of the bad weather experienced by the entire state of Oklahoma in December, enrollment in Medicare Part D for seniors who were disadvantaged by these conditions has been extended.  The Special Enrollment Period (SEP) will be in effect for a minimum of 30 days.  No documentation of hardship will be needed to establish eligibility for enrollment.  For additional information call Sunny Fye, ASCOG area agency on aging information and referral specialist.  Information can also be obtained by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. 

New Minority Representative on ASCOG Executive Committee: Trustee James Dorn, minority representative from Grady County, has been selected by the other minority representatives to represent them on the executive committee.
