REAP Application Reminder: REAP applications are due by close of business (5 p.m.) August 24, 2007. If you cannot access the application at www.ascog.org, call ASCOG and a copy will be mailed to you. There are several changes in this year’s application so please complete it as soon as possible. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact Jim Vanzant, ASCOG REAP coordinator.

Elgin Gets NLOS-C Production Site Selection: In a joint press release made on July 18, U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) announced that Boeing, BAE Systems and the U.S. Army have jointly chosen Elgin, Oklahoma as the site of the Army’s Non-Line of Sight Cannon (NLOS-C) integration center. The Elgin facility will be used to support production integration of the NLOS-C, an indirect fire support component of the Future Combat Systems (FCS). Initial prototypes of the NLOS-C will complete integration at the Elgin facility in the last quarter of 2008 with an anticipated NLOS-C early production quantity of 18 units from 2010 to 2012 (six per year). Follow-on production of NLOS-Cs will occur at a rate per year to be determined by the US Army.

Southwest Oklahoma Impact Coalition (SOIC) and South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Area Awarded Grants: On June 29, U.S. Department of Labor announced it was awarding $2.5 Million to SOIC to assist civilian workers, military spouses and service members affected by military base closures and relocations transition to new careers in high-growth industries. As a result of this funding, South Central Oklahoma will be modeling innovative approaches to regional Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC)-related economic transformation. The South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board and Area also received $60 K from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission for services provided to Defense Finance and Accounting Services workers adversely impacted by BRAC.

City of Cache Get’s New Senior Center: Cache will move into their new community facility on Aug. 7, 2007. Grand opening will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 7. The public is invited.

ASCOG Holiday: ASCOG will close Mon. Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day. The offices will open for business Tues., Sept. 4.

Employee-of-the-Month: Ken Jones has been the planner for the Area Agency on Aging and the supportive services division for nine months where he has been instrumental in assuring improvements of the Respite Program referral system. He has worked with nutrition projects and programs to assure the consumers are served who need to be. He is compassionate and understanding about aging issues.

New AAA Accountant: Joe Stuckey has been selected as the accountant for ASCOG’s Area Agency on Aging program. Joe is a recent Cameron University graduate and makes his home in Duncan.

Devol Gets New Truck: The town of Devol, has just received and is getting ready to put into service a new tanker\ pumper fire truck. This is a very nice apparatus that the community is very proud of. The truck was purchased through a federal grant given them last year.

Grandfield Senior Citizens Center Gets New Coordinator: Rachel Berry long time resident of Grandfield has been selected as the new coordinator for the Grandfield Senior Citizens Center. Rachel replaces Jean Chancy who has elected to retire. Rachel has been associated with several service organizations in Tillman County.
