Free Medicare Help Coming to ASCOG Area

OID LogoOKLAHOMA CITY – Medicare beneficiaries in Lawton and Frederick could save thousands of dollars a year if they get help from the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) and ASCOG. The two agencies are combining forces to offer free assistance during Medicare Open Enrollment.

“Medicare plans can change yearly. That’s why it’s important that people on Medicare review their plan,” Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak said. “We want to help seniors and other beneficiaries make the most of their medical coverage and their budget to protect their quality of life.”

Oklahomans can get help reviewing their Medicare options, including Part D prescription drug plans or Medicare Advantage plans. Last year, one agency reported the average savings per beneficiary who reviewed their Part D plan was more than $1,900 for the year.

“It is critical to give your Medicare coverage a second look every year,” said Ray Walker, MAP Director. “We’ve helped Oklahomans save thousands of dollars each year on their prescription drug costs.”

Frederick’s Medicare Forum will be held on December 2 at the Frederick Community Action Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration is not required.

Lawton’s Medicare Forum will be held on December 1 at the Lawton Library from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration is not required.

Medicare Open Enrollment is Oct. 15-Dec. 7. Any changes made during this period will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2016. If you cannot attend a Medicare Forum, call MAP at 800-763-2828 for free Medicare counseling. More information can also be found online at map.oid.ok.gov.
