    Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program 2016

    The Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG) has applications available for the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Seniors, 60 years of age and older, can request an application through the Information and Assistance specialist, Bethany Sullivan. The applications are limited and will be mailed out on a first-come, first served basis.     Funding Still Available through the Masonic Charities Foundation

      The Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG) is currently accepting applications for assistance in Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Jefferson, McClain, Stephens, and Tillman counties.  The Masonic Grant Assistance Program offers services to people such as, home repairs, wheel chair ramp construction, and handicap modifications to homes. Other Services offered are, chore services, emergency medication, durable medical equipment and dental services.

    How we can generate awareness and foster action to end elder abuse – one person at a time. Every year an estimated 5 million, or 1 in 10, older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation.     DHS Adult Protective Services launches photography contest, ‘The Beauty of Frailty’

    The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) Adult Protective Services (APS) has launched a photography contest to raise awareness about the ‘Beauty of Frailty.’ The contest is open to all photographers in Oklahoma over age 14 and entries will be accepted from March 15 to May 1, 2016.     Prevention of Abuse in Nursing Homes

    The following information is intended to assist you in preventing abuse to your loved one when they are residents of a nursing home. Some nursing homes provide good care and some provide poor care. You should choose a nursing home carefully. It is a good idea to choose a nursing home close to family members who will visit regularly, but location should not be the only factor in selecting a nursing home. Ask for referrals of prospective nursing homes from friends, fellow employees, or people at your church. Another good source is the Area Supervisor for the State Ombudsman.     As of January 1, 2016 change to the Medi­care pro­gram that will re­im­burse phys­i­cians for hav­ing ad­vance care plan­ning con­ver­sa­tions with eld­erly pa­tients, craft­ing a per­son­al guide­book of sorts for a doc­tor to know just how ag­gress­ively (or min­im­ally) a pa­tient would like to be treated.     Oklahomans invited to Senior Day at the Capitol Feb. 22, 2016

    Oklahomans are invited to the State Capitol on Monday, Feb. 22 for the 2016 Senior Day at the Capitol. The annual event is a chance for Oklahoma’s seniors and their advocates to discuss the needs of the more than 818,000 Oklahomans age 60 and older. The event is free and open to the public. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Capitol.     ASCOG Area Agency on Aging is announcing the availability of request for proposal packets for funding to provide services under Title III of the Older Americans Act in Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Jefferson, McClain, Stephens and Tillman Counties.
