    Free Ombudsman Training Offered

    ASCOG (Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments) will provide free ombudsman training. A long-term care ombudsman advocates for rights of persons in long-term care settings like nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Learn more about long-term care issues by attending the free training sessions on January 27th and 28th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Great Plains Technology Center, Bldg. 600 in room 623B; 4500 SW Lee Blvd, Lawton.     Free Nutrition Counseling for Seniors 60 and Older

    The ASCOG Area Agency on Aging provides free nutrition counseling to a limited number of participants aged 60 and older. ASCOG has registered dieticians in each ASCOG nutrition site bimonthly.  The dieticians are available to assist with physician ordered diets or questions related to individual nutrition. If you are already a participant at a senior nutrition site served by Delta Nutrition, Cyril Nutrition or Temple Nutrition, simply contact your site manager to sign up for nutrition counseling.     Nursing home residents often want to participate in outside events but may worry they will lose Medicare coverage if they leave the facility to do so. Residents and their families and friends can put their minds at ease. According to Medicare law, nursing home residents may leave their facility for family events without losing their Medicare coverage. However, depending on the length of their absence, beneficiaries may be charged a “bed hold” fee by some skilled nursing facilities (SNF).     Free Medicare Help Coming to ASCOG Area

    OKLAHOMA CITY – Medicare beneficiaries in Lawton and Frederick could save thousands of dollars a year if they get help from the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) and ASCOG. The two agencies are combining forces to offer free assistance during Medicare Open Enrollment. “Medicare plans can change yearly. That’s why it’s important that people on Medicare review their plan,” Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D.     Area Agency on Aging to Host Public Hearing

    The Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG) Area Agency on Aging is hosting a multipurpose, public hearing to consider the needs of older Oklahomans in Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Jefferson, McClain, Stephens and Tillman counties for state fiscal years ending in June 30, 2016 and June 30, 2017.  The meeting will be held December 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the Red River Technology Center, Jerry D.     ASCOG Announces Funding for Senior Nutrition Sites for Fiscal Year 2017

    ASCOG Area Agency on Aging is announcing the availability of request for proposal packets for funding to provide services under Title III of the Older Americans Act in Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Jefferson, McClain, Stephens and Tillman Counties. Proposal packets and service specifications are available at 802 W Main, Duncan. Services funded include social services, congregate meals, home delivered meals and transportation. Funding provided by the US Administration on Community Living, The Oklahoma Department of Human Services & ASCOG AAA.
